Who we are
Hotel Kimal, Atacama inspiration since 1994
An Atacameño and an Englishwoman imagined a refuge that celebrated the magic of the desert and the warmth of its people, and since then we have honored that promise.
A multicultural, fully independent team committed to regenerating the oasis.
Who we are
We open our home to share the magic of San Pedro, with respect for its culture, craftsmanship, and natural rhythm.
Hotel Kimal was born in 1994 from the inspiration of an Atacameño and an Englishwoman, at a time when San Pedro was barely on the world tourism map, with the goal then and now of giving travelers the magic of this incredible place. Architect Magdalena Gutiérrez expressed in the design her passion and deep respect for earthen architecture and local culture.
Because we are inspired by a deep appreciation for nature and the creativity of artisans, the design highlights noble natural materials shaped by hand. In the rooms you will find cactus-wood furniture, native chañar beams, cane ceilings, wood floors, and clay construction with clay-and-straw plastered walls that keeps rooms cool in summer and warm in winter.
Our team is imbued with the desire for guests to feel like they are visiting our home and provides the warmest welcome from arrival.
We look forward to welcoming you.
